I received a defective unit. Think this was odd, wrong!
The sound did not work, something that you can tell as soon as you turn it on! The plant who did the refurb would know this if they tested the unit before they put in the box. (There are built in diagnostics, you could just try those before you put it in the box and ship it as “Like New Condition”)
After over 2 hours on hold, Magellan quickly confirmed that the product was indeed defective and that their remanufactured units are often shipped with operational defects. The description “remanufactured to like new condition” is not true for these units. Oddly the support tech confirmed that the over $600 price was reasonable for these remanufactured units.
Also the 90 day warranty period means that you will get only 2 tries to ship the unit back and try to get a working unit. They said that they would take 4-6 weeks for an exchange, and that it would not re-start the 90 day warranty. They offer a 1 year warranty for an additional $ 130, but the new one is only $200 more and has the latest maps and software in it, why would you buy remanufactured?
I do believe the Roadmate is a good product, but remanufactured is not OK., and their support and warranty for Remanufactured are intended to keep you from buying them.
It all seems rather unethical to me.

I ordered the refurb model to save the $100 from the new…it was not worth it.
The model showed up SHOWING signs of it’s used condition, and of course; the sound didnt work.
I boxed it back up and shipped it back the very same day.
I went to another website and ordered the new one. [...]

Dealing with Magellan customer support was perhaps the worst customer support experience I have ever had. Ever. Not only were they unknowledgeable about their product, but a 3 day old unit with a problem was not covered by warranty. There was a $45 fee just to send it in, and then they would let me know how much the actual repair would be.
I have owned 3 Garmin units and I am about to buy a fourth. Stay away from this lousy company and their messed up products.

I have an installed GPS product in one car and we purchased this unit for other vehicles we own. I have found the Roadmate 700 to be every bit as accurate as my installed product at roughly 1/3 the price. And it gives verbal directions. I chose this model because of the large internal storage than allows all US maps to be maintained in the unit.
The only possible downside to consider is that it must be suspended from your windshield with a mounting adapter (provided), and plugged into a cigarette lighter outlet for power, which some may consider unsightly.
If you’re looking for a GPS system, I’d highly recommend yuou consider this one.
