I purchased Nextar BC-14 GPS, and it crashed in 6 months. I called Nextar customer service, they told to mail it back on my own expenses (approximately $15.00). I received a new Nextar BC-14 as a replacement GPS. Even the new replacement GPS makes weired noise and crashes once in a while. Battery life is less then 10 minutes. Initial booting takes time, catching the satellite signal is okay.

Great GPS! Easy to use functionality is good! I like the backup camera feature…as I always am scared backing up with my SUV….Now I can see what is behind me! Highly recommend!

This unit seems like a good deal but after following all the manual’s instructions and even calling the retailer for advice, it would not stay powered up on a fully charged battery, the AC charger, nor the car’s DC connection.
Also, moving between various portions of the menu took WAY too long.
To move from one part of the menu, the manual instructs one to use a pencil, totally impractical while driving and not required for other GPS units.
(We have a Garmin Nuvi 670 and two other Garmins for our boat and have not had these experiences.)

I usually do not write reviews, but this time I feel it is my duty. I must say quality assurance for this company is extremely poor. The first time I used it, I thought it was quite easy to use. The UI for the GPS function was well designed (but you cannot listen to MP3 while using the GPS, and it sometimes blanks out probably thinking that the backup camera has turned on). After a couple of months, the device started making ticking sounds and then ceased to work. I had it replaced, but upon arrival the new device would freeze after a few touches on the screen. I had it replaced again. But after a couple of weeks the device started to repeatedly reboot during operation. Now I cannot even turn it on. This is a great disappointment. I had to pay for the postage, insurance, and delivery confirmation every time I returned a product.

Got this from another vendor for what I thought was a steal. Had it delivered and opened it up and charged it for 4 hours. Flipped the switch on the back, pressed the power button, set the date and time and location. Mounted it on the bracket (flimsy) and typed in an address. The voice that came out of the speaker sounded like the cheapest walkie talkie voice I’ve ever heard. It seemed to find the signal quickly and gave me good directions and named the streets as I drove. Pressed the power off button and went inside the store. Came back out, pressed the power button and the screen came back up frozen. Turned it off and then back on and the same screen came up. Turned the on off switch on back, I guess this is a reset as the set up screen came back up, set the date, time etc all over again and plugged in another address. Tinny sounding voice told me where to go and got me there okay. Turned it off on arrival and upon turning it back on the screen was frozen again. Called the 800 support number and was on hold for 20 minutes before a foreign voice came on and offered me absolutely no help besides offering to send me a mailing label so I could pay to ship it back to them. I did find out I could bring it back to a local auto parts store for credit which I immediately did. On a side note, the menu is terrible on the screen, terribly hard to see, you cannot change the fonts. The box this one came in showed a $600 price on it, I paid just over 1/6 of that including shipping and based on what I saw I over paid. The bracket for the GPS is flimsy and not very changeable. The GPS gets mounted to the wireless camera receiver and then to the bracket. I never did get around to mountin the camera as the GPS itself was a POS. The web page for the GPS had an update flash but I could never tell if the one I received needed it or not and the lady on the support phone couldn’t understand my question. I am seeing this model marked down all over the place. I suppose if you used an external speaker and got one that didn’t freeze up it would be a great thing to have. I wanted it because I mounted a camper on my truck and can’t see out the back window. Guess I’ll mount a stand alone wireless camera and keep my old GPS.
