This is my second Roadmate My first was way out of date but is still had more merits than the Garmin I bought last year. The Magellan RoadMate 1440 4.3-Inch Touch Screen Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) was a good value and performs well.although the very pleasing voice of yesteryear’s Roadmate has been replaced by one that irritates me as much as the voice of Garmin. Delivery was prompt and I would recommend both the unit, unless you want to pay over $100, and the seller.

It works fine now after fully charge but battery life is less than 2 hours.

The Magellan worked right out of the box. Updated map and put in destination and was on my way. I bought a TOMTOM xl 330s a week later. After “updating” maps and 2 calls to support and 2 hours of “redoing” things wiping out files etc the TOMTOM was ready to use. I went on a 200 mile trip Magellan got me there right on time TOMTOM wanted me to go an hour and half out of my way to the same place.

Magellan I trust. TomTom I would use mapquest as a back up. When you are on a major interstate and you push “HOME” TomTom asked if I wanted to take dirt roads to my destination. The Magellan just gave me direction home and was less than 2 minutes off ETA. I followed Magellan instructions while TomTOm kept saying “turn right” 3 times as I got near my home.

do the right job as described, speed is fast, well refurbished.

come with an outdated map(2008 Spring), but it is enough for me, custom service is bad,

however, considering the price, a good buy.

I’ve used WAY TOO MAY GPS units. Some were OK some really SUCKED.

This is the BEST GPS unit I have used.

The voice is easy to understand and is plenty loud enough.

The 3D option shows all the surrounding streets which can be very helpful.

The best part is it TELLS YOU EVERYTHING in plain English.

It tells you the street name you will need to turn on at different intervals, IE 2 miles, 1/2 mile, etc

and dings when you are at the turn. The top of the map shows in words the name of the street you will

be turning on so if you missed hearing the command, you can read exactly the name of the street and exactly how far away that turn is.

Overall this is the BEST GPS I have owned to date and I have either owned or tried 6 different makes and models.
