My “Factory Refurbished” 260w arrived looking brand new in the factory box with all of the original accessories. After just a few minutes of reviewing the manual, I was up and running. A few weeks later, I took the unit on a business trip to Miami. I’d pre-programmed the addresses of my company offices and it took me right there with no problems. I especially liked the ease of which I could scan for restaurants closest to my current location!

The unit is VERY easy to use, very clear, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

If you are looking for an easy to use GPS with street names spoken this is the one for you. The Garmin 260W worked perfectly right out of the box. The one I purchased was refurbished from Digitech Deals, but it looked like brand new. It came packaged in a Garmin box with power cord and mounting bracket. It also had a 12 month warranty from Garmin and user guide. Make sure you register it at the Garmin website so you can get the latest software update and check for the latest maps ( mine had the latest maps already loaded ). You can’t go wrong with this one or Digitech Deals.

I have been looking for a couple of months and like you right now, I had been reading a lot of reviews for GPS systems. All shapes, sizes, brands and of course prices. The only other GPS I had used before was a Navigon 2100 which I had gifted my wife for Christmas. The Navigon was my only comparable and this GPS I feel was a much better choice. To start, the GPS lock is faster, the Navigon would take sometimes around 45 secs to 1 minute to lock, this Garmin always locks in 15-20 secs. The screen is of course much bigger and it makes it easier to see the directions. The main advantages over the Navigon though would have to be the Text to Speech where it actually speaks the street names so instead of saying “Turn Right in 20 Feet” it says “In 20 feet turn right on Park Road” and The Points of Interest. This unit has way more POIs than the Navigon. I have always found everything I’m looking for and besides that, it shows the phone number of the store, restaurant, etc. so you can call if needed.

I went to the Garmin update site and my GPS already came with the 2009 US Map whihc I believe is the latest.

I just did not give it 5 stars because when it gets out of the roads into shopping roads or plaza roads it makes mistakes on how to get you to the exact place you’re looking for. When you’re that close I normally don’t need anymore help. Anyway it lost 1 star for that.

I had an old baseball size Garmin that took forever to aquire satillites etc. I bought this Garmin and took it on a trip to San Francisco. I relied totally on the Garmin nothing more. Although you still need to use your brain,(I got off the freeway and knew I shouldn’t have) it worked and got me to the destination on time and as scheduled. I won’t leave home without it. You don’t have to take your eyes off the road because it speaks the street names and gives you plenty of warning. The only con is the louder you turn up the volume, the less clear the words come out. Understandable, but not as clear as it could be.

We bought this GPS system because we make a lot of trips to San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, and the rest of the Bay Area. It has made it nice for when we just want to get away and not worry about how to get back to the interstate. My wife is not that good with maps or directions, so with it, she is able to go to the city and with the voice speaking out the names of the street, it allows her to get where she needs to be easily.
